MIH Is A Good China Partner, Yahoo Is A Bad China Partner

Yahoo ($YHOO) owns nearly 40% of Alibaba. Jack Ma is desperate to cut its stake and used alleged Chinese government discrimination against foreign investors to expropriate Alipay. For all we know the Chinese government may be pressuring him to reduce Yahoo’s stake.

MIH owns approximately 35% of Tencent. We never hear about any issues between the two companies and in fact they often work together on deals outside of China.

When Google announced its retreat from China in early 2010 Yahoo issued a statement that it was “aligned” with Google, enraging Jack Ma, Alibaba and the government.

MIH is CCTV’s partner in its African TV expansion.

Who do you think is the better partner in China?
