Time Weekly looks at id5 (北京国政通科技有限公司), a company that verifies real names in China and may the prime beneficiary of the real name requirement for microblogs such as Sina ($SINA) and Tencent’s Weibos–微博实名制背后有利益驱动? The article reports a rumor that the verification fee will be 2 RMB/account and raises questions about the background of id5 and its relationship with government regulators.
I posted my thoughts on Twitter, embedded below:
sina to pay 2 RMB/account to verify real names on Weibo? IT bit.ly/yiwEqH cheaper than what baidu paid

sina investors who think there is no cost 2 $sina for real name requirements are deluding themselves. question is how much, how material

smart pr, imply corruption @ the real name verification, may force govt 2 lower the fee (doubt will force them 2 cancel requirement) $sina

govt.’s real name requirement on weibo is a signal 2 people paying attention that they need to watch what they say $sina
